Earlier today, Gov. Bev Perdue announced that Certain-Teed, the maker of roofing, insulation, and other construction materials will build a new warehouse in Granville County, create 10 jobs, and invest up to $20 million in the county over the next three years. The deal was “made possible in part by a $30,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.”

Sure it was. Had the state not kicked in that final 0.15 percent, Certain-Teed was bolting for Virginia!

Perdue’s press release (PDF) is here.

Meantime, Cisco Systems, a major tech employer in the Triangle, announced Tuesday it was laying off as many as 10,000 workers, or about 14 percent of its work force. How this might affect local employment is anyone’s guess. If the company decides it’s more profitable to close its operations in North Carolina altogether (or expand them), that’s a business decision.

But how much you wanna bet Perdue and her team will toss some loose change at the company to try to keep it here?
