Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is proposing the state government in California be cut significantly. Under the proposal, 100 boards and commissions would be wiped out, consolidating duplicative departments and generally streamlining government. If enacted, the budget would save a projected $32 billion over a five-year period. All this comes after a study conducted at the Governor?s request to ?blow up the boxes,? and it has been hailed as the most thorough investigation of state agencies since Ronald Reagan was governor in the 1960?s.
