Thomasville City Manager Kelly Craver has been given the benefit of the doubt regarding his recent arrest on drug charges.

But now comes Craver’s explanation:

“I assure you that the marijuana found in the lake house that I own with my wife and another married couple was not purchased by me and was brought into the house by someone else without my knowledge or permission,” Craver said in a letter of apology he sent to city leaders Friday.

Again, that may be, but evidently Craver granted permission to smoke up, because it was the smell of pot that alerted the Davidson County deputy who knocked on the wrong door.

Smokers and non-smokers do hang out together (or so I hear), so it’s possible Craver wasn’t indulging, as evidenced by his clean drug test. But the bottom line is the city manager was in the presence of illegal drug use, and the City Council will have to decide if he should be terminated. The burden’s on them.
