Biography

Julie Havlak is an associate editor for Carolina Journal, joining CJ full-time in July 2019. She worked with CJ in 2018 as a 2018 National Journalism Center intern. She is a 2019 graduate of Hillsdale College, where she studied English and journalism and wrote for the student paper.

Julie won a second-place award at the N.C. Press Association’s 2019 Editorial and Advertising Contest in Beat News Reporting for a series of stories showing how regulations prevent Medicaid recipients from getting the benefits they’re entitled to receive.

In her free time, she likes to read, camp, and read some more.
