Peter Wood, who will be the featured speaker at the Pope Center’s conference on Nov. 1, has written one of his typically sharp and witty pieces on the state of higher education in America .

One point in particular stands out in his discussion — the supposed fact that more than 90 percent of college faculty members agree that having a “diverse” student body “enhances the educational experience of all students.” That seems preposterous until you consider the possibility that what college professors think “educational experience” means may be wildly different from what you or I think it means. If the word “is” can have more than one meaning, so can “educational experience.”
