On the subject of air quality, remember the problems at Oak Ridge Elementary that were allegedly making students and employees sick, prompting GCS to shut the school down?
Now some Oak Ridge parents —– evidently tired of shuttling their kids to different temporary locations —– have circulated a petition calling for Oak Ridge Elementary to open sooner rather than later:
We would like to urge Guilford County School officials to complete all repair work as quickly as possible and return our students to Oak Ridge Elementary by January 2010. Neither NIOSH nor any litigation issues should be allowed to cause delays in getting our students back in their school.
Note the comment from one parent saying that “unless there is something the school system or NIOSH isn’t telling us, I don’t see anything that’s preventing us from being back in the school.” Considering the fact that Oak Ridge’s renovation was botched in the first place and that repairs are running $40,000 over budget, I’d say that’s very wishful thinking.
