A $2.3 billion plan for 28 miles of light rail in Phoenix has drawn opposition from a group called The Voters Opposing Tax Extension. Instead, the group takes the rational approach to transportation by supporting freeways, roads and bus service. The facts about rail are clear: it’s a colossal waste of money in areas that don’t have the population density to support it — like North Carolina. For more on our state’s rail proposals and why rail hasn’t worked in other cities, read my February Carolina Journal story, which includes perspective and data from transportation experts who spoke at the Center for Local Innovation’s recent conference.

I invite you all to comment on what you think is the most disingenuous argument of those who support light rail, or your favorite example of why or how it doesn’t work.
