The Burlington Times-News assigned photographer Peter Schumacher to shoot a domestic violence program at Western Alamance Middle School, despite the fact that he’s a registered sex offender.
Schumacher’s has been placed on administrative leave with pay. The question is whether or not the Times-News was unaware that Schumacher was a registered sex offender or if they thought his modified 60-month probation for a 2003 indecent liberties with minor charge allowed him to go near children in order to do his job. Times-News publisher Peter Mauney isn’t saying much, citing “personnel laws.” I thought only government relied on personnel laws to avoid informing the public.
