Last night, I was able to read the print version of the online cliffhanger insinuating misdeeds in expenditures by Mark Clasby, who doubles as Haywood County’s economic development director and chairman for MedWest. As one might expect, a person serving in both slots is going to be somewhat of a workaholic, and so lines were somewhat blurrier than they would have been if he simply worked a nine-to-five. A radius has now been defined for reimbursable lodging expenses. Another concern was the amount spent on conferences. From what I’ve spent on conferences, I would say he charged the taxpayer minimally.

In the end, the problem seems to be another case of there being so many rules, one need only get on somebody’s bad side to incur allegations of wrongdoing.
