A special meeting of the Henderson County Commissioners will be held August 8 to possibly approve a proposed one-cent lodging tax increase. Recently-approved legislation would allow the county to collect an estimated $223,000 a year for the next two years, from tourists for the Flat Rock Playhouse. Playhouse representatives scrambled to pull together a plan for spending the money that would appeal to the commissioners. Since the playhouse will be the sole recipient of taxes collected from lots of businesses, the representatives took an “all for one and one for all,” approach for their pretexts:

The Playhouse plans to supplement the proposed extra funds with its own marketing dollars to pursue a strategy of “cooperation and integration” among all tourism entities in order “to change the game in terms of tourism in Henderson County,” said Producing Artistic Director Vincent Marini.
