Uh oh! The Democrats writing the state budget are in the doghouse with a key special interest group: Big Education. The News & Observer reports that NCAE, the teacher union — or “association” as they’re called — put out an alert to its members in which president Sheri Strickland lashed out at Senate budget writers. (emphasis is mine)
The legislative update quoted president Sheri Strickland saying, “They spend the fall telling the public that Democrats are to be trusted to protect public education. They even come to our headquarters trolling for money and with a straight face talk about the Democratic platform of protecting and professionalizing public education. All the while they are plotting and planning how to gut the classroom in favor of more bureaucracy and unaccountability.”
This isn’t the first time NCAE has gotten ticked off at the thought that Big Education might actually have to face the fiscal music just like everybody else. But “plotting and planning”? Grow up, folks.
