Even though the Charlotte city council last night voted against spending upwards of $3 million to start a mounted police unit — plus about $800,000 in yearly expenses — notice the absurd spin from advocates.

“The patrol would give visitors a higher sense of security,” said Mike Crum, chief operating officer of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority.

Once again, visitors to Charlotte seem to rank higher in the Uptown crowd’s priority list than actual residents. Maybe that’s because you might actually be able to fool someone in town for a few hours into thinking that Charlotte does not a have a violent crime problem.

People here day after day know better.
