The Charlotte Capitalist helpfully tells us what city council at-large candidates really mean to tell Charlotte voters:

If re-elected, [John] Lassiter said, he would continue to focus on economic development as well as public safety and transportation. “I don’t come with a fixed agenda,” said Lassiter, who also owns a small business. “I think I come with a history and an experience level of getting things done.”

Translation: “I have no core values. I wouldn’t know capitalism if it hit me in the face. I am going to continue pragmatically pushing economic control of you and your property.”

and…

“I chair the Transportation Committee and have led an effort to develop a comprehensive transportation strategy for our city,” Mumford said.

That long-range transportation plan includes roads, buses, bikeways and light rail.

Mumford defends the Council’s decision to pursue light rail.

Translation: “I am smarter than you and will spend your money accordingly. You need light rail.”

Ouch.
