Senator Kay Hagan spent half an hour with local government luminaries from Asheville and Buncombe County today. She focused on the president’s intent to get a health care bill enacted by October. She repeatedly stressed that prevention and wellness programs would be a large part of the bill.

The best part of the meeting was City Councilman Kelly Miller’s questions. He asked about the mathematics behind a program that would award $62-63,000 in health care for Americans currently uninsured. He asked for an analysis of predictable unintended consequences of Cap and Trade and Card Check legislation. For example, said Miller, Cap and Trade would send manufacturing jobs overseas, but analyses have shown that 15-20% of pollution in California comes from Asia.
