Not my words; Roch Smith ‘s description of today’s N&R story on the amended EEOC lawsuit that adds Greensboro City Council member Trudy Wade as defendant:

This is another example of the kind of he said/she said reporting the piss poor standards at the News & Record allow. It’s not just Amanda (Lehmert), this tactic has a long and sad tradition at the News & Record.

It is fair enough to report what the lawsuit alleges, but to let that claim stand without reporting contradictory facts, especially when they are demonstrably known to the News & Record, is simply unconscionable. Amanda has a little wiggle room because she is a relatively young reporter and relatively new to Greensboro. But the News & Record editors are as aware of this as I am and they should be exercising a little extra effort to make sure Amanda’s inexperience isn’t getting in the way of accurate reporting.

What blows me is the fact that the Rhino has been reporting this story for weeks, and the N&R is just now catching up.

As for the supposed Department of Justice investigation of the Greensboro Police Department, I actually picked up the phone and talked to council member Robbie Perkins about it. Perkins told me he didn’t have inside information that the investigation was related to the EEOC suit, that “it’s just logical that it’s the path you go down.” It’s clear Perkins ran it up the flag pole as a way to save ousted City Manager Mitchell Johnson’s job.
