“The addiction of low self-esteem is killing us,” Houston said Saturday morning, during an address at UNC’s School of Social Work. “It’s not drugs. It’s not alcohol. Those are just manifestations of low self-esteem.”

This self-absorbed, society-made-me-feel-bad-about-myself nonsense comes from Terri Houston, UNC’s Director of Recruitment and Multicultural Programs. Ms. Houston does a disservice to those who have faced life’s trials by asking for help, and then taking responsbility for, and changing, their destructive behavior. Hopefully at least some of today’s college students can spot the tired mantra of the 80s and 90s when they hear it.
