The Pope Center is holding its annual higher education conference this coming Saturday. The theme is “Higher Education in America: Do Students and Taxpayers Get Their Money’s Worth?” Professor Ricard Vedder, author of the recent and much-acclaimed book Going Broke by Degree will be the keynote speaker. Murray Sperber, author of Beer and Circus, will lead things off with a talk on how colleges and universities tend to ignore undergraduate education. Four panel discussions will cover topics including the weakness in writing instruction, taboo subjects, and the erosion of the curriculum.
