The Uptown paper of record today does a decent job of noting the passing of John William Pope. Perhaps there should be more emphasis on how his experience as an entrepreneur informed and shaped a commitment to limited government.

Entrepreneurs mostly want government to leave them alone, and not tax and regulate their visions into extinction. It is an ongoing battle, one that will continue in North Carolina far into the future. The limited government side has a fighting chance thanks in large part to John William Pope.
