Why is it that so many, most in fact, of the “citizen columnists” that newspapers publish these days are left-wingers. Here’s one who is a walking cliche of the America-hating liberal:

Once when I was a graduate student in philosophy at Duke, someone on my Durham summer league softball team inquired what I was doing for Independence Day.

“Asking forgiveness for a nation built on slavery, genocide, and war,” I replied.

Our 40-something pitcher, who worked for the phone company and had taken me fishing a few times, glared at me. “If you hate America so much, why don’t you just leave?”

“Because I want to watch this system burn.”

Burn, baby, burn! Power to the people! Speak truth to power! Off the pigs! Yeah, man, dig it. But, hey, he loves the Grand Canyon. There’s that, at least. He says he’s mellowed since that incident and sees America’s “potential,” but…:

But rather than worship this nation, I’m asking it to live up to its ideals and even embrace some new ones.

Narcissistic liberals just can’t change.
