*Nine states drop out of the ‘Race to the Top,’ but North Carolina remains eager for millions in fed dollars. The N&R says it’s not clear what the state would do with the money. Imagine that.

*UNC doesn’t qualify for the ACC baseball tournament, yet qualifies for the NCAA tournament. On the subject of the former, a crowd of 6,000-plus at New Bridge Bank Park watches Florida State’s physical win over N.C. State for the ACC title.

*My Memorial Day reading included the Rhino’s write-up of Guilford County Schools’ rewrite of its “academically or intellectually gifted students” plan. Paul Clark does a great job of covering GCS, but if you can figure out what plan is, have at it.

*College Park Baptist Church minister Michael Usey is busted for plagiarism in his open letter to Greensboro Mayor Bill Knight regarding his decision to add prayer to council meetings. What jumped out at me was Rev. Usey’s belief that Knight’s decision will be challenged in court.

*Alamance County is pondering furloughs.
