Duke University political science professor Michael Munger, is running for governor as a Libertarian. He had this to say in today’s News & Observer about Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue:

“She’s running commercials that mostly seem to establish that she was once a child. She was once younger, and that at some points in her life, she’s had some unfortunate haircuts. So it’s chronicling a series of unfortunate haircuts.”

We like Mike Munger, shown above, but think he might have found something of Perdue’s to criticize other than her past unfortunate haircuts.

UPDATE: Someone in the office told me he seems to recall that Munger was growing his hair out last year for some charity or other. I do seem to remember something about that but can’t name the charity or any of the details. If that’s the case he has an excuse. Not sure about Perdue, though.

UPDATE 2: Found it (scroll down):

Munger, chairman of Duke University’s political science department, had his long, curly hair ironed, pulled into pigtails and shorn for the Locks of Love charity.

In recent months, he had grown his hair long, leading one colleague to say he looked “like an aging rock star.”

According to his blog, Kids Prefer Cheese, Munger gave his hair away to commemorate his wife’s survival of breast cancer in 2004.

“To all of you who have wondered about, or openly mocked, my hair … that’s why I grew it out,” he wrote.

UPDATE: Prof. Munger responds in the comments below. Cites his “hairthority.”
