Buncombe County’s results are rolling in, but the number of precincts reporting is flawed. However, Heath Shuler is losing to Aixa Wilson by a narrow margin in the Democrat Congressional primary. Dan Eichenbaum jumped ahead of Jeff Miller in a six-way race for the Republican slot.
Richard Burr is running away with the senate race, as is Elaine Marshall. The reserved R. L. Clark, who said he used to get grief from even his wife for voting no in previous terms in the state senate, is squeezing by government watch dog Don Yelton.
Patsy Keever is beating incumbent Bruce Goforth, but she had the backing of local party leaders.
Van Duncan is running away with the sheriff’s race.
The judicial races are close. Longshot courageous Kate Dreher is leading the unstoppable Alan Thornburg. Leto Copely and Jane Gray as are ahead by narrow margins.
