More mischief/idiocy from The New York Times. Does anything seem funny about this lede on a story by reporter Andrew C. Revkin?:
George C. Deutsch, the young presidential appointee at NASA who told
public affairs workers to limit reporters’ access to a top climate
scientist and told a Web designer to add the word “theory” at every
mention of the Big Bang, resigned yesterday, agency officials said.
It was news to me that the president, who I’ve heard is a very busy
man, takes the time to “appoint” 24-year-old gofers who worked in his
political campaign. Usually these young people pick up jobs because of
contacts they’ve made while working in the heat of the campaign. This
hardly qualifies one as a “political appointee.”
So, what was the NYT‘s motive for using this inflated
and incorrect appelation? There could only be one: to tie President
Bush, in some way, any way, to someone who did something questionable.
