Economics professor Art Carden writes in Forbes about the empty blather of Obama’s State of the Union speech. You can read it here.
In particular, Carden points that the phrase “winning the future” is meaningless. You can win a game or contest, but the U.S. isn’t in any sort of game or contest with respect to the rest of the world. People in all countries can “win” — that is, become more free and prosperous. The unfortunate fact is that the notions Obama advanced as helping America to “win the future” such as more subsidies for favored companies and technologies can only impede the ability of all but the favored few to “win.”
