RALEIGH — As American and world leaders react to yet another deadly terrorist attack in London, one of the nation’s leading authorities on anti-terrorism programs will speak Monday in Charlotte on ways that the city and state can better prepare to prevent or respond to terrorist attacks.

Retired Army Col. David Hunt, a military analyst for Fox News Channel, will be the featured speaker on Monday, July 11 at noon at a John Locke Foundation Headliner luncheon at the Charlotte Hilton Executive Park. In his new book, They Just Don’t Get It, Hunt contends that not only is the terrorist threat worse than Americans have feared, but also that Washington politicians and bureaucrats are endangering citizens by posturing and bickering.

“Given the stakes of the War on Terror — our very survival — don’t you think it’s time we took a look to see if we are ready?” Hunt asks. “Are we ready as a nation, as a military, and as a government? I’ll tell you right now, we’re not. But we can be.”

Hunt’s 29-year military career has been dedicated to fighting terrorism, including posts training the Special Forces in counterterrorism, serving as security adviser to six different Olympic Games, and aiding in the destruction of a terrorist training camp. Hunt has parlayed his military experience into work as a federal court expert and training for the FBI, the CIA, and the National Security Agency.

At the Monday luncheon, Hunt will discuss more than just what he sees as the country’s compromised security. As his book details, there are several actions that citizens can take to protect themselves and their families

“There is something you can do to help win this war,” he said. “You can do it starting right now.”
