Who: Joanne Jacobs is an education journalist and creator of the education blog JoanneJacobs.com. For nearly 20 years, Jacobs covered education issues for the San Jose Mercury News, leaving in 2001 to write the book Our School. Jacobs describes the creation, struggle, and success of Downtown College Prep, a San Jose charter school in which the average ninth grader enters the school reading at the fifth-grade level. By senior year, 94 percent of the graduating class is accepted into college.

Jacobs continues to cover and analyze education issues, and her articles have appeared in All Things Considered, Reason Magazine, Stanford Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle, Christian Science Monitor, and FoxNews.com. She is a media fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford and the Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy in San Francisco.
