I saw the most disconcerting thing today: proof that price-gouging has been going on in North Carolina. I hope someone complains to North Carolina’s Protectors of True Prices: starting with Attorney General Roy Cooper but also with the governor and the General Assembly. This madness has got to stop. People should not be taken advantage of like this. Especially not at Christmas!
What I saw today is this: stores all over the place are selling the exact same Christmas decorations that they’ve been selling for weeks, but now they’re priced 50 to 75 percent below what they were just days ago. Seriously! Right now a seven-foot-tall, lighted Christmas tree is worth $30 ? but stores were charging poor people during the Christmas season $120 for it just last week!
And why? Because they could! People need Christmas decorations at the holidays! Nobody needs them now. I ask you, is that right? Is that how prices are supposed to work in a free economy? There ought to be a law! This can’t go on another Christmas!
