around 1968) and Art Carney and Jackie, in their Ed Norton and Ralph
Kramden personas, just sang a song with these lyrics:
When the going’s rough you’ve got to show your tough
And defend your rights every day.
So keep your head up high but keep your powder dry.
It’s the All-American way.
Imagine a network primetime show doing that today.
