Louisiana’s approach to teacher training is ahead of the curve. More than ever, the state is turning to private and non-traditional teacher training programs like The New Teacher Project and Teach for America. (Let me also mention American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence, an excellent alternative teacher certification program.)
Now, the trick is to convince state departments of education to scrap most of their certification requirements and encourage qualified, but unlicensed, individuals to enter the teacher workforce.
