The effort to cap local privilege license taxes at $100 cleared the House on Wednesday and now heads to the Senate.

Representatives did clarify that ATM machines were not to be considered businesses for the purpose of privilege licenses.

While the bill caps the tax, it also broadens who can be taxed in cities that choose to levy it. Under the proposed new law, nearly all businesses, including home businesses, in such cities would be assessed the license tax.

The bill also included other tax provisions, including a tax on e-cigarettes. It also did some tweaking to last year’s tax reform package.
