From Susan Martinek, president of the Coalition for Life of Iowa, comes this stunning, outrageous abuse of government power by the IRS.
Martinek said that at one point, an IRS agent instructed her by phone to have her group’s board members all sign a sworn statement that they wouldn’t picket outside the Planned Parenthood.
Andy Grewal, a University of Iowa tax-law professor, said the IRS would have no legal basis to make such a request. If Martinek’s recollection of the conversation is true, he said, “it’s outrageously stupid, but it’s hard to tell if that’s part of a larger pattern.”
