My friend and former colleague Guillermo Peña (now at Instituto Veritas Honduras) is updating news from Honduras. Things took a violent turn today against a demonstration in which protestors were proclaiming “HONDURAS IS A COUNTRY OF PEACE, WE LOVE DEMOCRACY”:

In San Pedro Sula, a peaceful demonstration was squashed by Mel Zelaya’s GOONS. They through stones, lit firecrackers and fired shots (most likely live rounds). We will not tolerate these cheap intimidation tactics to hide the TRUTH about Zelaya and his rampant violations of the Constitution and desregard of the Judiciary.

Meanwhile, Zelaya addressed the UN General Assembly today and predictably got more “world” approval for his particular government.

Socialists and assorted statists all have the same approach to democracy: they’re in favor of it up until the precise moment after they receive the vote they wanted, after which they have no use for spontaneous soundings of the people’s voice ever again and will invariably justify all their dictatorial actions with nonsense about it being “the will of the people.” Make no mistake: the rule of law and the principles of democratic government in Honduras are being upheld by this “coup” (a “coup” affecting only the executive and supported by the judiciary, legislature, military and populace — what kind of “coup” honors the current constitution of a government and aims to keep it in place?).
