There’s a bit of a glitch in rapidly-moving plans for the new Rockingham County courthouse complex: There’s no sheriff’s office.

Needless to say, this bothers Sheriff Sam Page, who’s trying to convince county commssioners to add one. The problem is– you guessed it– how to pay for it. But Page says part of the cost can be offset by renting beds at the jail to federal prisoners being held by the U.S. Marshals Service.

“Federal inmates can be a profitable business,” Page said.
