Hans Bader of the Competitive Enterprise Institute writes about disturbing trends in “progressive” educational policy here.  To begin with, the Obama regime plans to keep throwing more money into the ineffective “Head Start” program. Bad, but expected. Far more distressing is the idea put forth by former Duke Law professor Erwin Chemerinsky (now dean of the UC-Irvine Law School) that the government should ban private education (including homeschooling) on the grounds that the state has a “compelling interest” in homogenizing education. That’s “progressive” thinking for you — use government coercion against individuals because elite theorists have concluded that they can’t be allowed the freedom to act as they choose.
