The votes for Asheville’s mayoral and city council primary elections have been counted, and the progressives won. Speaking generally only, so as not to upset any campaign laws, the semi-progressive mayor beat three contenders with 76.22% of the vote. The top four vote-getters in the city council race were progressives. A progressive who dropped out too late to get her name off the ballot got more votes than two of the nine remaining candidates. To make matters interesting, a progressive incumbent is going to run as a write-in in the general election. A more progressive turnout is expected for the general election due to the opening of four new one-stop voting shops. Only 11.10% of registered voters participated in the primary.
