ttMassive government failure in Union County. Just massive. To have the state step in and halt construction projects because the county has not built enough sewage treatment capacity should be a firing offense. Once again, a basic function of government has broken down.

Sewers are about as old as civilization itself. In many ways, sewers are civilization as they represent the ability of a society to organize itself and remove a harm so that all members of the society are better off. This requires planning, some form of data processing, and pro-active action. You know, basic Bronze Age stuff.

Not in Union County.

Somehow the county’s explosive growth and demand for sewage capacity surprised local officials. Or did it? Did they deliberately keep treatment capacity lagging in order to serve as a backstop to growth they did not like?

In any event, raw sewage spills destroy private property, certainly the enjoyment thereof. Union needs to fix this mess. Fast.
