Judith Miller of the New York Times and Matthew Cooper of Time Magazine had nothing to do with the Valerie Plame/Joseph Wilson/Niger/CIA fiasco
when it started two years ago but they’re all that’s left and they face
real jail time for refusing to cooperate with an investigation into a
crime that didn’t exist. Irony? It’s so thick, I’m not sure where to
start.

After supporting independent counsel Lawrence Walsh, then
ridiculing Kenneth Starr, the MSM were convinced that they could get
Karl Rove “frog-marched out of the White House
in handcuffs” with a special prosecutor (a different beast but still
single focus) they paid no attention to whether there was a crime in
the first place. They knew there had to have been.

Now that
Patrick Fitzgerald has found nothing in the original charges, the MSM
are apalled that the Supreme Court refused to defend thevictims of
their witch hunt and insist on blaming the prosecutor.

It’s
too late for the New York Times to stand on principle in this case,
especially after it distanced itself from Miller over her Iraq WMD
reporting.
