Duke Provost Peter Lange has responded masterfully to Duke English professor Houston Baker’s cheap bid for publicity at the expense of the Duke lacrosse team. If only everyone would take the measured approach of the Duke provost.
I
was lucky enough to be in Peter’s seminar on Western Europe my first
semester as a Duke graduate student ? and his as a Duke professor of
political science ? in the fall of 1981. It was one of the best
educational experiences I’ve ever had, and I still have the notes from
that seminar.
It’s nice to see he’s still on his game despite becoming an administrator.
