The High Point Enterprise reports the Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority has signed off on allowing the cities of Greensboro and High Point to build a pump station that would carry water from the Randleman Lake.
The pump station was a point of contention between the water authority and the cities as they debated which entities could build it more quickly and cost-effectively. The motion passed by a close 6-4 vote:
Darryl Frye, who represents Randolph County on the authority, said he took issue with the wording of the motion approved by the authority on Tuesday.
The motion called for the authority to “accept the joint request by cities of Greensboro and High Point to design and build the Highway 62 pump station, subject to the authority’s review and approval of the pump station’s operating agreement drawn up among the government entities involved.”
Frye said the wording made it unclear whether or not a decision needed to be made by the PTRWA or the six individual governments who make up the authority.
“The main intent is to not have that process lingering out there while we’re finishing financing and trying to build the water plant,” Kime said.
Sherrill Shaw, who represents Randleman on water authority, asked what assurance the authority had that there would be no delays in the project if High Point and Greensboro assumed responsibility over the construction of the pump station.
Frye, along with Shaw, Randolph County member Bob McDuffie and Jamestown member Charles Jones voted against the cities’ request.
I’ve praised the N&R editorialists for staying on top of this issue, but I can’t find the news story of this development anywhere in today’s issue. Someone let me know if I’ve missed it.
