Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s health care overhaul bill is almost ready for it’s close-up. The bill includes the undead public option. It allows states to opt-out of the public plan, but they would still have to do everything else in the bill.

Just to remind you, too, $274 billion in higher Medicare payments to doctors would not count as part of the overhaul’s cost. Greg Mankiw compares the public option to the unaffordable existing entitlements, and the goverment-rescued Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Tyler Cowen says it will hurt “many of the very people that it was ostensibly designed to help.”
