The Public Schooling Battle Map is an interactive resource developed by the Cato Institute. The map identifies nine categories of public school conflict, ranging from curriculum to moral values.
In North Carolina, for example, Cato categorizes the Wake County student assignment controversy as a “racial/ethnic diversity” conflict. Cato cites conflicts in other North Carolina districts, including New Hanover, Wilkes, Johnston, Gaston, Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Buncombe, and McDowell.
Cato policy analyst Neal McCluskey published an excellent companion piece, “Why We Fight: How Public Schools Cause Social Conflict.”
