The Town of Franklin is considering renting its old town hall to a brewery. Rents would be relatively low, and the brewer would be expected to invest $185,000 in rehabilitating the building. Entering into a lease agreement would be an appropriate role for government.

“We would love to be on the south end of the Asheville Ale Trail,” said Ken Murphy, co-owner of the proposed brewery, “And we think having the business downtown would provide some vibrancy and energy to downtown.”

And, as Patrick Henry rhetorically asked,

How can a man be free without government-induced vibrancy and energy?
