Here’s an interesting article in the Triad Business Journal on the process involved in getting certified as a woman-owned business.

Here’s what jumped out at me:

Margot Dorfman, CEO of the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce, says there are billions of dollars in contracts with the federal government available to women, but women-owned enterprises aren’t taking advantage of them…
“Women owned firms have lost $5.6 billion in contracts annually,” Dorfman says of the federal contracts.

That’s $5.6 billion. Quite a bit of money. Here’s my question: Are there enough women-owned businesses, could there ever be enough women-owned businesses, to fulfill $5.6 billion in federal contracts? I’m not wondering if it’s right or wrong; I’m just wondering if that’s the way it is.
