Introducing Jaguar Wright, arrested by federal marshals last week for the murder of N.C. A&T sophomore Derek Hodge.

Today’s N&R editorial Short Stack eulogized Hodge:

The murder of popular N.C. A&T sophomore Derek Hodge last year was hard on fellow students and family remembers, who remembered his bright smile and strong character. It also frightened neighbors of the Kay Street residence where Hodge was shot to death early on a Saturday morning in April 2008 — especially as the months went by without an arrest.

…..Police think Hodge was shot when he walked in on a burglary. Wright’s attorney said his client is innocent. The truth will come out, but it’s satisfying at this point to know that, just as his friends and relatives have not forgotten Derek Hodge, neither did police.

The N&R’s own account reported “police have said they believe the burglary was drug-related.” That could mean a lot of things, one of which could be that Hodge might not have been an innocent victim of a random burglary.

Let’s hope the truth does indeed come out.
