The Biz Journal ponders whether or not downtown Gboro can handle ” not one … not two … but three hotels into that same market, more than doubling the number of rooms in the central business district.”

You know about Roy Carroll’s new project –to go along with his new publishing venture —as well as Randall Kaplan’s proposed 180-room hotel above Elm Street Center.

Still out there, of course is proposed mixed-use development on South Elm across Lee Street, which if you remember was the original site for the project that was going to take advantage of federal recovery zone bonds before Skip Alston got involved and moved it across the street from the International Civil Rights Museum.

Seems so long ago, reminiscing begs the question as to how Kaplan intends to fund this project. For now, Kaplan has “declined to provide further detail on the project, deferring questions about financing, the selection of a general contractor and how the hotel would handle parking to a formal announcement that’s forthcoming.”
