The Greensboro City Council made pretty quick work of two high-profile rezoning cases.
The public hearing portion of the Friendly Avenue rezoning involving county commissioners Linda Shaw and Mike Winstead was closed at the last meeting, so a vote was all that was required. There was little council discussion before the request passed by a 5-3 vote, with Dianne Bellamy-Small, Mary Rakestraw and Yvonne Johnson voting against.
Then, after practical pleas from developers and passionate pleas from neighborhood residents, the council passed the Garden Lake rezoning request by a 7-2 vote (Bellamy-Small and Rakestraw voting against), again with very little discussion. What discussion took place pretty much was in praise of the quality nature of the development.
