In an effort to create a non-biased intelligence test for youngsters (or, in other words, to bloat the number of “pre-pubescent geniuses”, many of whom happen to be minority students), Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools use the “Naglieri” intelligence test. This test, according to the director of gifted services for the schools, “involves no writing, no reading or speaking. Instead, students look for ‘patterns’ or ‘spatial relations’ in abstract designs.”

With the help of this test, nearly one-third of the areas’ children are deemed gifted.

Hmm. I guess if you think America is getting dumber, instead of focusing on improving education, perhaps we should just make the test more right-brained and inclusive. And all this time I thought it was the school system that was failing. Nope, I guess it all goes back to a failure to create the perfect, egalitarian test, which apparently has nothing to do with communication skills.

This test is exactly what we need: A way to selectively elevate more kids who cannot communicate their amazing ability to see the world as a giant quilt.
