Much of the Triangle’s afternoon-drive talk radio audience spent this week listening to John Locke Foundation President John Hood. Hood completed his seven-day run as guest host for Talk Radio 850 WPTF’s 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. program. Hood’s guests this week included Carolina Journal Managing Editor Rick Henderson, who discussed the federal indictment of Rep. Stephen LaRoque, and Associate Editor Dan Way, who discussed primary runoff elections.

JLF Vice President for Outreach Becki Gray returned to News 14 Carolina’s “Capital Tonight” program this week to debate hot political topics during the program’s “Insiders” segment. Gray continues her semiweekly state politics and policy updates for WTSB Radio listeners, and she spoke to the Onslow County Republican Women’s group in Swansboro.

Gray organized a candidate briefing scheduled this afternoon at the JLF office in Raleigh. In addition to Gray, speakers will include Hood, Vice President for Research Roy Cordato, Director of Research and Local Government Studies Michael Sanera, Director of Fiscal Policy Studies Fergus Hodgson, Director of Regulatory Studies Jon Sanders, and Director of Education Studies Terry Stoops.

Cordato joined Chad Adams twice this week on the WLTT Radio morning program. In their first chat, Cordato discussed the facts surrounding the presidential debate over outsourcing jobs. During Cordato’s second appearance, he panned a Wilmington Star-News editorial linking lower mercury levels in North Carolina to the state’s Clean Smokestacks legislation.

Sanders discussed his latest research on film incentives and cronyism during an appearance with Lockwood Phillips on WTKF’s “Viewpoints Radio.” Read more about the Carolina Cronyism research below.

WSOC Television interviewed Director of Communications Mitch Kokai for a story on congressional campaign spending involving candidates’ businesses and family members. Kokai discussed the week’s top state government news with Curtis Wright on WAAV/WFNC Radio. The Fayetteville Observer interviewed Kokai about the fate of a struggling taxpayer-subsidized agricultural center in Lumberton. 

The Goldsboro News-Argus promoted N.C. History Project Director Troy Kickler‘s participation this week in Camp Liberty, a program sponsored by the Citizens for Constitutional Liberties. This year’s theme for the second-annual event is “The Founding of America,” and Kickler addressed the questions “What Is A Constitution?” and “What Is the Rule of Law?”

JunkScience.com promoted this week JLF video of founder and publisher Steve Milloy’s presentation to the Shaftesbury Society. Milloy discussed the complaint he has filed with the N.C. Medical Board in connection with air-quality tests the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency conducted on human subjects in North Carolina.
