I’m not an “American Idol” watcher, but I mentioned to my wife the other day that North Carolina has another finalist on the show, a guy named Anoop Desai. “Anoop Desai?” she asked. “That sounds familiar.”
So she went into her files and found the 1994-95 yearbook for Fuller GT Magnet School in Raleigh, where she was the librarian at the time. Sure enough, there was little Anoop Desai in the third-grade photos. Guess we’ll have to watch “Idol” now.
I ran across another Raleigh reference just now while watching a video by Adam Shepard, author of Scratch Beginnings: Me, $25, and the search for the American Dream.
The video is filmed at the starting point of his adventure, the Raleigh Amtrak station, which he notes overlooks “the beautiful three-building skyline of Raleigh, N.C.”
