Oh, don’t worry. The debates are raging in the other room, and good points are being made among the bad. I just wanted to share something that is missing from all this economic talk.
I was thinking tonight about how hard it is to get hired help. This one has chemical dependencies, the second and third ones have undependable transpo and bills too high to justify repairs. The fourth actually works three days a week, but those are the three we need her.
It occurred to me the reason our economy stinks is that we push people aside. The economy is good for eggheads who can patent 100 ideas a year, tech-savvy dudes and dudettes who are always making better microchips. But what about all those proverbial black people in the ghettoes? or the white trash? It is our humanitarian responsibility, we say, to sustain them. We forget they need a reason to belong. I say if we need a master plan to jump-start the economy, and we don’t, we need to empower everybody to do things for others. If we stop worrying so much about the IRS, The Wee People might even be able to use our talents to trade for what we need.
But I’m only dreaming.
